Black and white studio portrait of a baby girl by Anna Hindocha/Warm Glow Photo

Black and white studio photo session of a seven month old baby girl

2nd June 2014 Child photography , , , ,

This was a really enjoyable and successful session, largely due to good planning by the parents.  The mother said very early on that she wanted the photos to be black and white and it made a great change for me to be able to think about and compose them all with that in mind. The photoshoot had to take place in the evening when the little girl was usually asleep and they had a long drive across London in a Friday rush hour to get here, so I think we were all a bit nervous about what mood she would be in. However, she was an absolute star and really looked like she enjoyed her photo session.  It makes it easier to get great photos when you work with people that have thought about what they want from the shoot. They shared a pinterest board of example images with me (a big help in understanding what clients want) and brought lots of different outfits and toys. I also got to talk tattoos with the dad during the session, which always makes me happy!

Many thanks to them for such a lovely shoot.

Family portrait session at The Rookery, Streatham Common

27th May 2014 Child photography , , , , , ,

Last month I came straight back from a lovely holiday to this fun, sunny family photo session on Streatham Common. It’s always great to work with families I already know and have photographed before, as everyone is already relaxed with each other and we can just enjoy ourselves.

The session also led me to reflect a little on why I love photographing toddlers and preschoolers. (more…)

Don’t smile please – A manifesto for responsive photography

As a parent I follow the principles of attachment parenting, particularly aiming to always “respond with sensitivity”.  I was also very influenced by a ToddlerCalm workshop I attended, which spoke about the toddler’s “job description” and the qualities they need to fulfill it, such as perseverance, inquisitiveness, and creativity. Watching my son use these traits to learn about the world is the most amazing and inspiring part of motherhood for me, and something that I really hope to capture in other children when I photograph them. New Year’s Eve Wedding

28th January 2014 Wedding Photography , , , ,

I just wanted to share some pictures from the wedding that I photographed on New Year’s Eve. Despite the weather it was a fantastic day. The bride and groom and their families and friends made me feel very welcome. I had the most helpful group of ushers ever, which meant I could concentrate on the photographs rather than running around looking for people. There was also the cutest and most photogenic group of flower girls that I have had the pleasure of photographing. Both venues were great and I would especially like to mention the staff at Woodlands Park Hotel  who really went out of their way to help with the challenges of photographing inside due to the rain.

All this and I finished in time to go out myself for New Years’ Eve – a satisfying days work.

Busy times

23rd December 2013 Child photography , , , , , , , , ,

The final month of 2013 has been really busy. Christmas started for me in mid-November, as I had to organise photo shoots early to ensure I met pre-Christmas print deadlines.

The pop-up portrait studios at Serendipity have been a great success. All the toddlers were really comfortable in front of the camera, and I had the pleasure of getting to cuddle a few smaller babies too.  (more…)

On Monday 18th November I will be hosting a pop-up photographic studio downstairs at Serendipity Tea Room, 241-243 Streatham High Road, London SW16 6EN. This is a great opportunity to get photographic portraits of your family that could be used as Christmas presents, without the expense of paying a session fee.

The pop up studio will run from 2.30pm –5pm and there is no need to book, simply turn up.

There will be a viewing session two weeks later on Monday 2nd December from 3pm-4.30pm where you can order prints and view examples of different products (although if you cannot make this you will be able to view the images online).

As a special Christmas offer standard prints will be available from £10. Framed prints, canvas prints, digital files and photo books will also be available.

See examples of my work or to contact me with any questions.

I’ve now had a little time to reflect on the busy and enjoyable week of my babywearing exhibition.

On Saturday the exhibition opened with some delicious lemon drizzle cupcakes from Anne of Toast & Butter. By lunchtime most of the people in the photos had come to see themselves and it was lovely for me to see how much some of the children had grown since I photographed them. Maria Yasnova from La Leche League brought a large selection of books and leaflets and gave advice on breastfeeding, while Virginia Carrington led an informal discussion on “good enough” parenting, which developed into a very interesting dialogue on different approaches to schooling. Article on my babywearing project

8th June 2013 Child photography , , , , , , , , , , ,

The latest issue of Close Enough To Kiss magazine includes a large article on my current project, featuring many images and an interview with me. The magazine is available to read online for free or to download for a small price. I’m really pleased with how the images look and would like to thank everyone who has let me photograph them. I am currently organising a venue with the hope to exhibit this work to tie in with International Babywearing Week in October and will post further details of this when they are finalised.
