Last month in addition to family portraiture I did lots of work for my favourite long-term client, Campbell/Crafts Vintage, a boutique selling high-end vintage reproduction fashions from around the world.

One of the best things about being freelance is being able to choose to only work with people that you get on with. Lindsay, owner of Campbell/Crafts, and I have a lot in common and every time we work together we have loads to talk about and spend lots of time catching up.

I love the variety of working with them. Last month I photographed Lindsay’s diner dresses on a mannequin in my studio, which meant I could listen to my own music as loudly as I like and really get into it. I also went to the 1940s Relived event at Brooklands Museum to photograph the vintage airstream that they take to events. That was quite an experience: set in post-war Paris there were people in meticulous military uniform marching around with guns and a display of vintage cameras that fascinated me.

The main work I did for them last month was a photo shoot with the singing sisters from My Favourite Things wearing a range of Campbell/Crafts clothes at their showroom. The girls were great to work with, there was amazing, gravity-defying vintage hair from Hair That Turns Heads and beautiful make up from Catherine Bailey, and I got to have a proper play with my new octa softbox, which is even better than I hoped it would be. I also got see all of the new season stock and, as always, ended up buying a couple of things for myself – being around such lovely clothes all day is quite dangerous.
